The mega science, technology and industry expo, organised on the grounds of Gomtinagar railway station, attracted a major crowd on Friday.
Models of satellites by Indian Space Research Organization (Isro) and of missiles by Defence Research and Development Organization were the highlight of the mega event.
Prithvi, Akash and Nag missile models, set up by DRDO, were the stars of the event. Students from various schools of the city thronged the stalls to understand the working of the prototype models and ask questions related to it.
"We have seen these defence missiles only in our school books. Seeing them in front of our eyes is a whole different experience. The most fascinating thing was the decoy launcher," said a student of St Clare's Convent School.
"It's an awe-inspiring experience for our young minds. Their curiosity has risen to a whole new level and since this is the first time that they are a part of such a big event, we are letting them roam about and learn new things. Witnessing everything and conversing with the scientists will inspire them to aim for a better future," said Usha Pathak, head mistress of a government school in Bahraich. The team had come all the way from there to see the exhibit.
Models of polar satellite launch vehicles for rockets and remote sensing satellites by Isro were crowd-pleasers.
"We have a glorious history of rocket launches. It's great to see visitors coming forward to clear their doubts," said SN Sahu, a scientist at Isro.
Along with aerospace and defence models, achievements and success stories of CSIR labs, initiatives started by the Centre such as Swachh Bharat Abhiyan and Digital India were also showcased at the event.
Union science and technology minister Dr Harshvardhan, who inaugurated the expo, said this was a golden opportunity for students as well as others to see the greatest science innovations and technologies under one roof.
